Pacific2010 will host a unique Careers and Skills professional development forum aimed at promoting careers and skills in the commercial maritime and naval defence sectors of Australian industry and the Australian Defence Force.

The forum is an initiative of Aerospace Maritime and Defence Foundation of Australia Limited, a national not-for-profit body, established to promote the development of Australian industrial, manufacturing and communication technology resources in aviation, maritime, aerospace and defence.

The Foundation has established a series of on-going Careers and Skills promotional programs around Australia, aimed at developing awareness of career opportunities and the required training and educational pathways.

The professional development forum at Pacific2010 will provide a unique occasion for vocational advisers, teachers and careers professionals to learn more about the variety of career opportunities for young people in the commercial maritime and defence industries.

The Pacific2010 Careers and Skills Professional Development Forum will enable participating teachers and career advisors to meet key industry employers and gain an insight into how young people can achieve rewarding careers in the Australian Defence Force and in the commercial maritime and defence sectors of industry.

Provisional Program

09:00-11:15 Industry Overview
Hear from a range of speakers from the Maritime Defence Industry and Australian Defence Force covering topics relating to career opportunities and educational pathways.

11:15-11:35 Morning Break

11:35-12:25 Young Industry Ambassadors
Hear directly from young people who have recently joined the maritime and industries. They will talk about what they studied, how they achieved their goals, and their future career aspirations.

12:25-13:00 Question & Answer Panel

13:00- 18:00 Optional visit to the Pacific2010 International Maritime Exposition
To attend the Asia Pacific regions largest and most comprehensive commercial maritime and naval defence industry exhibition. Speak to representatives from both Australian and International companies and learn first hand from perspective employers about available job opportunities.

14:00-16:30 Optional tours of Royal Australian Navy vessels
Take a guided tour of Royal Australian Navy vessels berthed alongside in Cockle Bay. (Please note that bookings for these tours are essential and can only be made on the day.
 

NAVY GUIDED TOURS

Participants at the Pacific2010 Careers and Skills Forum will be able to join in guided tours of Royal Australian Navy vessels berthed in Cockle Bay during Pacific2010.

These tours will take approximately 30 minutes. Bookings are essential and can only be made on the day.

Bookings can be made at the Sea Power booth which is part of the Defence Materiel Organisation exhibition stand in Hall 4 of the Exhibition Centre.

Tours will begin at 14:00 and concluding at 16:30.

PLEASE NOTE – the guided tours will involve climbing gangplanks and ladders so please wear suitable clothing and footwear.
